- Regional Information: "There is plenty to see and do in Leeds, so make sure you get out and about. Kirkstall Abbey is one of the best preserved Cistercian monasteries in the country. Its dramatic architecture, which dates back to 1152, is set in beautiful parkland along the banks of the River Aire. Why not also visit Abbey House, where reconstructed Victorian streets will transport you back in time to Leeds in the year 1880? The birthplace of Lord Darnley, infamous husband of Mary Queen of Scots, Temple Newsam House is one of the great country houses of England. It is set in landscaped parkland designed by Capability Brown and has one of the largest working rare breed farms in Europe. Roundhay Park is one of the biggest parks in Europe and covers 700 acres of parkland, lakes and woodland. It is adjacent to Tropical World which is home to the largest collection of tropical plants outside Kew Gardens, as well as some resident fish, monkeys and reptiles." - Leeds University website
