Faculty
Dr. John Bukowski is Governor of the Allegheny Mountain Section of the Mathematical Association of America, representing the Section on the national Board of Governors. Dr. Kim Roth is Second Vice Chair of the Section.
Dr. Sue Esch was the 1990 winner of Juniata's Beachley Award for Distinguished Teaching. Her textbook, Quantitative Methods, has been used at Juniata for a dozen years.
Dr. Jerry Kruse taught at the Fachhochschule Muenster during the Fall 2006 semester as part of a faculty exchange. He taught Algorithmen und Data Strukturen and Graphical Programming at the Informatik campus in Burgsteinfurt, Germany, while his German colleague, Herr Prof. Thomas Weik, taught at Juniata.
Drs. John Bukowski, Cathy Stenson, and Kim Roth have all been Fellows of Project NExT, a program of the Mathematical Association of America for new mathematics faculty interested in improving the teaching and learning of undergraduate mathematics, among other topics.
Dr. Jerry Kruse is a coordinator for the SIGCSE Committee on Evaluating Models of Faculty Scholarship, which is attempting to categorize how Computer Science faculty are evaluated for tenure and promotion.
Dr. Kim Roth is an advocate for studying abroad, as she participated in the prestigious Budapest Semesters in Mathematics when she was an undergraduate student.
The Department of Mathematics is very musical! Ben Sunderland, Cathy Stenson, and Kim Roth all sing in Juniata's Choral Union. John Bukowski serves as piano accompanist for the Choral Union, and he performed a Mozart piano concerto with full orchestra in 2006. Ben Sunderland is the piano accompanist for the Women's Chamber Choir at Juniata.
