Distinction
(Honors) in PACS
Students who have a designated Program of Emphasis in Peace
and Conflict Studies, or, who have fulfilled all of the requirements
of a designated Program of Emphasis in Peace and Conflict
Studies, and who have met the following criteria, may receive
the designation of Distinction in the POE at their graduation.
- A minimum
overall GPA of 3.4
- A minimum
POE GPA of 3.67
- Competency
in a second language defined as intermediate mid for western
European languages. Determined on a case by case basis for
other languages in consultation with the Foreign Language
Department
- A grade
of A- or higher on the senior thesis
- Completion
of a student portfolio
- A presentation
of the senior thesis in some type of public forum
- Recommendation
for distinction following a comprehensive interview by at
least three full time Juniata instructors, chosen by the
student and approved by the PACS Committee. The interview
process is to be comprehensive in nature. It should cover
materials presented in the senior thesis and in the portfolio
but it should also offer the candidate an opportunity to
demonstrate the ability to integrate learning across the
POE.
The
Baker Institute has conferred distinction in the POE on six
