Why Study Sociology, Anthropology, or Social Work at Juniata?
From the perspective of a returning adult student, the Social Work Program at Juniata has not only prepared me for graduate school and my professional career, but has also taught me skills that have made my personal life and relationships more fulfilling, and my many responsibilities manageable.

Social Work with a Focus in Minority Studies
Perhaps it's because you recognize that your greatest interest is how human beings create and sustain societies and solve the problems of living together!
Our department incorporates three separate, yet closely related academic programs, offering students exceptional opportunities to develop strong interdisciplinary perspectives in their growing understanding of social and cultural realities.
All three programs in the department:
- Focus on human beings in social groups and contexts
- Emphasize critical thinking in the study of culture and society
- Encourage students to discover the richness of understanding that comes from adopting multiple theoretical perspectives and multiple social scientific methods of research
- Enable students to develop collaborative working relationships with faculty members and other students
- Offer active, experiential learning through cross-cultural, international, internship and service learning placements
- Support high standards for scholarship and research coupled with commitment to student engagement and accomplishment
